Massage
Sports Massage
was originally developed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training, though it is no longer just for athletes. Sports massage is also good for people with injuries, chronic pain or restricted range of motion. The massage is generally rigorous and concentrated on a specific area (rather than a full body massage). It is a type of Swedish Massage, stimulating circulation of blood and lymph fluids, breaking down adhesions (knots in the muscles) and increasing range of motion.

A sports massage is a good choice if you have a specific problem. It is also be a good idea to see a movement therapist, who can help you identify and correct the movement pattern that might be causing your injury in the first place.

Reiki

is a gentle hands-on healing technique to reduce stress, relieve pain, and facilitate healing. Practitioners hold that the vital energy of the universe is channeled through the practitioner to energize the various body systems on levels that promote healing and wholeness. The hands (and intuition) are used to scan a client's body, and to perceive and treat areas of reduced vitality, enhancing the body's natural ability to heal itself through the balancing of energy. Reiki utilizes specific techniques for restoring and balancing the natural life force energy within the body. It is a holistic, natural, hands-on energy healing system that touches on all levels: body, mind, and spirit.

Deep Tissue Massage
is designed to relieve severe muscle tension in the muscle or the connective tissue, focusing on muscles below the surface of the top muscles. It works by physically breaking down adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue, caused by chronic muscle tension or injury,) to relieve pain and restore normal movement.

Unlike classic massage therapy, which is used for relaxation, deep tissue massage usually focuses on a specific problem, such as:

  • Chronic pain
  • Limited mobility
  • Recovery from injuries (e.g. whiplash,
    falls, sports injury)
  • Repetitive strain injury, such as
    carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Postural problems
  • Ostearthritis pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Muscle tension or spasm
Swedish Massage

often referred to as a “relaxation massage”, includes a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles, applying pressure to them against the deeper muscles and bones. The main purpose of Swedish Massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles, resulting in relaxation, shortening recovery time from muscular strain, increasing circulation, stretching the ligaments and tendons while keeping them supple and pliable, and stimulating the skin and nervous system and soothing the nerves themselves at the same time. It also reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and is suggested in a regular program for stress management.
